Pulses, including beans, lentils and peas, are easy to cook, delicious, nutritious and cheap. Chickpeas can cost a little as 30p for a 400g tin, and dried red lentils are around £1 a bag.
“Beans are a really good substitute for meat”, says Trust Me I’m a Doctor’s Dr Zoe Williams. Dr Rupy Aujla adds, “plant-based protein, lots of different types of fibre, very good for your gut health, [beans] are the kind of food we want to be focusing our [meals] around because they’re cheap and so nutritious”.
